Good to know
Will the colour match what I see on screen?
No two screens are calibrated the same way, so treat every photograph as a guide rather than a match. Two things are worth knowing before you order. Our warm shades — Madder Stripe, Bracken, Peat, Campion Check — almost always photograph brighter than they look in a room; in daylight they are dustier and quieter. Our palest shades — Chalk and Barley — borrow from whatever surrounds them, so they will read slightly green next to a green wall and slightly pink over a terracotta floor. If you are hesitating between two shades, the one that looks darker on screen is usually the safer choice in a real room.
How do I choose between two shades that look similar?
A few pairs come up often. Barley and Pebble: Barley is paler and reads as a background; Pebble has more grey and holds its own against white walls. Ink and Peat: the same depth at opposite temperatures — Ink makes a room sharper, Peat makes it softer. Slate and Ink: both dark, but Slate is a grey with blue in it rather than a black, so it lowers the volume in a room where Ink closes it in. Ink and Flint Stripe: the pale line in Flint breaks up the mass, so a dark bed stops looking like a hole in the room. Madder Stripe and Campion Check: the stripe is warmer and quieter, the check gives the room more of a mood.
Do the colours work together?
They were chosen as one set rather than as separate products, so any two of them will sit together without clashing. The pairings that work hardest are a pattern with a plain — Madder Stripe with Barley, Flint Stripe with Chalk, Campion Check with Sage. Two patterns in the same room is a decision rather than an accident, and usually one too many.
