The linen feels lovely and the colours are beautifully understated. My bedroom feels like a little boutique hotel now.

What people worry about
  • It will not be the colour in the photograph. No two screens are the same. Warm shades photograph brighter than they look; pale shades borrow from the room around them. If it is wrong, you have thirty days.
  • I will order the wrong size.Choose by the duvet you already own, not by the bed. Four sizes: Single, Double, King and Super King.
  • It will shrink.Wash it at the temperature on the label and it will not surprise you. If it behaves differently from how we described it, that is our fault, not yours, and we pay the return.
  • The colour will run.Wash it on its own the first time. That is true of any dyed cloth, ours included, and it is the whole precaution.
  • It will pill.Pilling comes from friction, so it shows first where you move most. If it appears in the first weeks, the goods are not of satisfactory quality and we replace them.
  • I will have to iron it.You will not. Creases are part of how this looks, and smoothing it by hand as you make the bed is enough.

The colour

Bracken.

The rust of dying fern — deeper and browner than orange, without the brightness that makes warm colours tiring to live with. The boldest thing in the collection, and the only one people describe after walking past the door.

Strongest at either end of the day: under a warm bulb it glows, in flat midday light it settles close to brown. In daylight it is dustier and quieter than a photograph suggests.

Where it belongs

October to February.

Best where nothing competes: white walls, a wood floor. In a room that already carries pattern it stops making sense. Between this and Peat — Peat is the one you live with, Bracken is the one people notice.

Before you order

Quieter in daylight than in a photograph.

Every colour in the range has one thing it does less well. We would rather you knew it before the parcel arrives than after.

From the founder

“Most of the linen I was sent, I sent back.”

For weeks, samples arrived, were washed, slept on and judged, and most of them did not make it. What remained is the range: washed linen chosen for how it lives, not for how it photographs.

Questions

What people ask before they order.

Good to know before you buy

Will the colour match what I see on screen?

No two screens are calibrated the same way, so treat every photograph as a guide rather than a match. Our warm shades, Madder Stripe, Bracken, Peat and Campion Check, almost always photograph brighter than they look in a room. Our palest shades, Chalk and Barley, borrow from whatever surrounds them. If you are hesitating between two, the one that looks darker on screen is usually the safer choice.

Do the colours work together?

They were chosen as one set rather than as separate products, so any two of them will sit together without clashing. The pairings that work hardest are a pattern with a plain: Madder Stripe with Barley, Flint Stripe with Chalk, Campion Check with Sage. Two patterns in one room is a decision rather than an accident, and usually one too many.

Which size should I order?

Choose by the duvet you already own rather than by the bed it sits on. A King duvet on a Double bed still needs a King cover. Four sizes are made: Single, Double, King and Super King.

Will I have to iron it?

No. Creases are part of how washed linen looks, and smoothing it by hand as you make the bed is enough. Wash it on its own the first time, at the temperature on the label, and it will not surprise you.

What if it is not right when it arrives?

You have thirty days to change your mind, offered on top of your statutory fourteen-day right to cancel rather than instead of it. Open the packaging and look at it properly. Handling it as you would in a shop never affects your refund. If it is faulty, damaged or not as we described it, we arrange the return and we pay for it.

The other colours

Chosen as one palette.

Any two sit together. Choose by the wall it will face, not by the screen you are looking at.
